Post delivery laddu is a tradition in Indian households — a specially formulated sweet made for new mothers in the weeks after childbirth, designed to aid recovery and support lactation. This is not a marketing claim but a centuries-old practice based on specific ingredients known for their warming, nourishing and anti-inflammatory properties.
This is made with puffed gond (edible gum roasted in ghee), dry fruits including almonds, cashews and dates, whole wheat flour roasted in ghee, jaggery, ajwain (carom seeds) and dried ginger (sonth). The ajwain aids digestion and is traditionally considered beneficial for new mothers. The sonth provides warmth. The gond and dry fruits provide protein and healthy fats. The ghee binds everything and adds its own nourishing quality.
One laddu per day with warm milk is the traditional dosage. These are richer and heavier than regular laddus — they're meant to nourish, not just satisfy a sweet craving. The flavour is complex: sweet from jaggery, warm from ginger and ajwain, rich from the ghee and nuts.
Suitable for new mothers from the second week after delivery. Also eaten during winter by anyone who wants a warming, energy-dense sweet.
