Andhra Podi
Munagaku Podi
Dried drumstick leaves ground with roasted dal and Guntur chilli. Earthy, mildly bitter and packed with nutrients — the podi your grandmother always added to rice.
Best Served With
Moringa — drumstick leaves — has been eaten in South Indian homes for generations before it became a global superfood trend. Andhra families, especially in rural areas, would dry moringa leaves and grind them into powder to add to rice during the months when fresh greens weren't available. It was a practical solution to nutrition that happened to taste good.
This moringa podi is made with dried drumstick leaves, roasted toor dal, roasted chana dal, Guntur red chilli, garlic, cumin and rock salt. The dried leaves have a slightly earthy, mildly bitter taste that's different from other podis — it's the taste of a leafy green, concentrated. The dal and spices balance and round it out.
Mix into hot rice with ghee. The ghee is particularly good with this one because fat helps the body absorb the fat-soluble nutrients in moringa. Sprinkle over upma or add to a simple vegetable stir-fry as a finishing powder. Some people mix it into roti dough for an everyday nutrition boost.
This is not the sweetest-tasting podi in the range. If you're new to moringa, start with a smaller quantity mixed with kandi podi until you're used to the flavour. Once you're used to it, you'll find it becomes a regular.
Storage Instructions

Shelf life is 2–3 months in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Always use a dry spoon — moisture shortens shelf life significantly.
